Orange County Venture Group Panel to Dig Into the Challenges
of Employing the "Perfect Generation"

Venture capitalists and VC-backed companies address the entrance of Generation Y into the workforce

IRVINE, Calif. – April 28, 2008 – Orange County Venture Group (OCVG), Orange County’s leading venture capital networking organization dedicated to the growth of venture capital funding in Southern California, has announced its May 20 breakfast program, "Here Come the Millennials! Are You Ready?" will openly discuss the potential challenges that the newest generation may bring to the workforce. Featuring perspectives of seasoned experts from Ernst & Young, Ventana Capital, ProMazzo and Beckman Coulter, the panel discussion will tackle how companies can successfully incorporate the talents of millennials, also referred to as the "perfect generation," to optimize business success. "Here Come the Millennials! Are you Ready?" will take place from 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. at The Pacific Club in Newport Beach.

"Today's business leaders are running companies during a period of time in which the youngest members of their workforce have essentially grown up ‘always on’ and have a deep connection to technology and open social networks," said OCVG President, Marc Averitt. "The way this generation thinks, communicates, and collaborates requires certain changes to the status quo to accommodate this new dynamic."

According to a CBS News report, Generation Y or millennials, are the demographic echoes of their parents, the baby boomers, and the largest generation of young people since the 1960s, making up nearly a third of the U.S. population. Echo boomers could comprise the most diverse U.S. workforce ever: 35 percent are non-white, and the most tolerant, believing everyone should be part of the community.

OCVG guest panelists Janice Smith, Lead Development Consultant of America’s People Team at Ernst & Young, Tom Gephart, Founder and Managing Partner of Ventana Capital, Brett Hummel, CEO and Founder of ProMazzo, and Richelle Rivera, Human Resources Manager at Beckman Coulter will clarify who Generation Y is, what they want, and whether you’re ready for these fresh faces to join your team. This topic will be of interest to anyone whose business success is dependent on a continuous flow of human talent.

The panel will spotlight the balancing act needed to manage the end-game. This topic will interest anyone who is curious about what really goes on during an IPO or sale and everyone who funds, manages or advises venture and post-venture stage companies.
